Richard "Dick" Jungwirth
August 21, 1940 - July 24, 2017

Stayton – Richard, 76, died July 24 in Salem. He was born in Salem and lived in Lyons until moving to Stayton in 1952. Dick attended St. Mary Elementary School and later graduated from St. Boniface High School in 1959 then entered Mount Angel Abbey. He served in the US Army from 1963-1965 during the Vietnam War. After Dick’s time in the service he returned home and worked for Jungwirth Brothers Sand and Gravel Company.

In 1967 he purchased Stayton Floral and Gifts, and won many awards for his designs in floral and garden, until selling the business in 2005. Richard enjoyed all arts, crafts, designs, gardening, Bonsai, stained glass, and cooking, even co-owning and operating Stayton House Restaurant in Stayton. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Willamette Valley Bonsai and was very involved in the green show in Salem for many years. Richard became oblate Martin de Porres on July 7, 1991 through Mount Angel Abbey. 

He is survived by his brother: John Jungwirth and sister, Gail Palmer both of Stayton; longtime friends: George Susbauer of Sublimity and twin brothers, Jack and Bill LaVallie of Salem and many nieces and nephews.

Recitation of Rosary will be Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:15 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial both at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Stayton. Contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Parish Hall. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
