Stayton – Dick,
84, was born in Hubbard to Marion and Matie (Ainsworth)
Kauffman. He attended local grade schools in Hubbard before
transferring to Oregon City High School where he was a
standout athlete earning all-state honors in both football and
Dick married Nadeen
Holsworth in 1954 and together they had four sons; Rick, Kip
and Brian who reside in Sublimity, and Joe who resides in
Stayton. They divorced in 1971 and in 1973 he married Janice
Williams. This union resulted in the addition of four
step-daughters; Diane Williams, Shirley Skaggs, Robin Lippe
all of Oklahoma and Kim Hearn of Salem.
After high school
and a couple of temporary jobs, Dick took a position as a log
scaler with Columbia River Log Scaling Bureau where he worked
for 42 years before his retirement in 1996. His early years
with this company were spent in Taft and Detroit until
eventually ending up with a permanent move to Stayton in 1960,
and to Sublimity in 1978. Due to health issues, he moved to
Brookdale Senior Living Facility in 2002, his final residence.
Dick is survived by
his wife: Janice; sons: Rick(Paula), Kip(Mary), Brian(Jeanette)
and Joe(Raeana); step-daughter: Diane, Shirley(Monte),
Robin(Gregg) and Kim(Pat); 11 grandchildren and 7
The family would
like to extend their sincere gratitude to Brookdale Senior
Living Facility in Stayton for the care, concern, and patience
they provided Dick during his long stay with them. There are
not enough words to express their appreciation. They would
also like to thank Serenity Hospice for their services.
