Richard Wayne (Dick) Kauffman
April 10, 1932 February 27, 2017

Stayton Dick, 84, was born in Hubbard to Marion and Matie (Ainsworth) Kauffman. He attended local grade schools in Hubbard before transferring to Oregon City High School where he was a standout athlete earning all-state honors in both football and baseball.

Dick married Nadeen Holsworth in 1954 and together they had four sons; Rick, Kip and Brian who reside in Sublimity, and Joe who resides in Stayton. They divorced in 1971 and in 1973 he married Janice Williams. This union resulted in the addition of four step-daughters; Diane Williams, Shirley Skaggs, Robin Lippe all of Oklahoma and Kim Hearn of Salem.

After high school and a couple of temporary jobs, Dick took a position as a log scaler with Columbia River Log Scaling Bureau where he worked for 42 years before his retirement in 1996. His early years with this company were spent in Taft and Detroit until eventually ending up with a permanent move to Stayton in 1960, and to Sublimity in 1978. Due to health issues, he moved to Brookdale Senior Living Facility in 2002, his final residence.

Dick is survived by his wife: Janice; sons: Rick(Paula), Kip(Mary), Brian(Jeanette) and Joe(Raeana); step-daughter: Diane, Shirley(Monte), Robin(Gregg) and Kim(Pat); 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Brookdale Senior Living Facility in Stayton for the care, concern, and patience they provided Dick during his long stay with them. There are not enough words to express their appreciation. They would also like to thank Serenity Hospice for their services. Private services will be held. Private interment in Lone Oak Cemetery, Stayton. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
