Lavonne was born September 1, 1950 to Ruth and Carl Dale in
Springdale, AR. She was the youngest of five siblings. She
grew up in Oregon after the family moved from Arkansas in
search of work. They lived in the Lakeside area, Westport,
West Stayton, Sublimity and Myrtle point. Lavonne graduated
from Sublimity grade school and Myrtle Point High school. She
married Jim Miller in Coquille on December 22, 1969.
went to Baltimore, MD with Jim as an army wife and worked in
an office. They returned to Coquille where they made their
home. They were divorced following his stint in Vietnam.
Lavonne managed a pizza restaurant and a 7-11 store. She
worked in retail at a variety of places including The Bootery
in Coquille and The Emporium in Coos Bay/North Bend. She also
enjoyed being an Avon Distributor. She became a care giver for
her parents after leaving retail. Lavonne managed their home
and medical needs for several years until their deaths in
lived in Lyons for six years then settled in an apartment in
Gates where she lived comfortably these last seven years. She
was a member of the Coquille and Myrtle Point Assembly of God
Churches. Lavonne attended Canyon Baptist Church for a time.
She was a member of the Living Water Church of God in Gates.
Lavonne was on a bowling team and volunteered with the
ambulance and took EMT training. She took driver’s safety
and diabetic classes. She was interested in health and
nutrition. She enjoyed singing, sewing, making floral
arrangements, going to yard sales and playing games. She
enjoyed animals, especially her cat Miss Kitty and two German
Shepherds, Prince and Printess. Lavonne loved all her family
and cooking dinners for everyone at Grandma and Grandpa
Dale’s house in Myrtle Point.
preceded in death by her sister-in-law Shirley Graves Dale,
parents Ruth and Carl Dale, her sister Gloria Dale Stringfield,
her niece Shelley Dale Hardan and Lavonne’s oldest brother
Carl W. Dale passed away in January of this year. Lavonne is
survived by her brother Donald (Bonnie)Dale, her sister Linda
(Don) Trahan, nieces, nephews and cousins.
