Bruce L. Philippi
September 1, 1937 – May 30, 2017

Silverton – Bruce, 79, died Tuesday, May 30 in Silverton. He was born in Salem, living in Stayton most of his life and moving to Silverton 12 years ago. He graduated from Stayton High School and went on to attend Willamette University and graduated from University of Oregon. He was very active in local and national Republican politics his entire life and still managed to balance that with his love of the Ducks!

Bruce married Sandie Davis on October 16, 1965 in Stayton. Bruce and Sandie added three children into their life, Missy (Mark) Pasternack of Vancouver, WA, Kristan (Anthony) Hoke of Silverton, and Brett who passed away in 2010.

He was an entrepreneur all of his life, owning and operating several business: most well-known for Philippi Ford, where if you wanted something on four wheels he had it including motor homes and campers. You might have walked in with intention of buying a Mustang and as a bonus walked out with a four legged pony! At a young age he started Philippi Construction, who developed Stayton’s Westown and homes of all shapes and sizes in the Stayton area. Over the years he developed the Doubletree business center, Ford Town, owned flower shops, pizza parlor, the French pallet, the Nursery Outlet and the Boulders Manufactured Home Park to name a few of his adventures.

Bruce was a member of the Silverton Elks, and United Methodist Church of Stayton. He owned Philippi Farms which raised and showed Morgan horses all over the country. For several years he was member of the Marion County Fair Board. He enjoyed giving back to his community his entire life always supporting schools, Stayton Hospital and many other community events. Next to his business activities his greatest joy was traveling with his family and friends, he was always on the go. When not traveling he was gardening, cooking or entertaining friends.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 51 years: Sandie of Silverton; his daughters; grandchildren: Alyssa (Jeff) Doering, Blake Philippi, Paige Pasternack, Elizabeth Hoke, Parker Pasternack and Abbie Hoke; and  great-granddaughters: Cecily and Kennedy Doering.

Viewing will be held from 6-8pm Sunday, June 4, 2017 at North Santiam Funeral Service.  Funeral service will be Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10 am at Foothills Church in Stayton. Private interment in Lone Oak Cemetery, Stayton. Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Stayton or the Elks of Silverton.
