Donald Earl Reynolds
August 2, 1925 ­ February 2, 2017

Gates - Don, 91, died February 2nd in Salem, OR. He was born in Alpena, MI to Earle and Aubrey Reynolds, attended Alpena HS before joining his father on a Great Lakes freighter as a Seaman. He joined the US Army in 1944, shortly before marrying Ethel Bearss on September 9th in Lincoln Park, MI. After serving as an MP stationed at Ft Sheridan, IL, the young family returned to Michigan following the war living for a time in Alpena, Dearborn, Flat Rock and Hubbard Lake.

In 1962 the farm at Hubbard Lake was sold and the family moved to SW Oregon living in Jacksonville and Grants Pass before moving to the Greater Portland area. Don experienced a varied career in heating/ac, farming, sailing, logging and carpentry. He loved singing in church choirs, the Besser Chorus in Alpena, Barber Shop Chorus in Grants Pass and the Santiam Chorus in Mill City, OR. He also enjoyed hunting, reading and story telling. He and Ethel led Bible studies in their home and were very active in Gates Community Church.

He is survived by his wife Ethel of Gates; children: Richard (Mary Etta) Reynolds of Highlands Ranch, CO; Nancy (Murray) Tilson of Newport; Linda (Glen) Kalhar of Pacific City; Mary (Ben) Smalley of Molalla; Cheryl (Richard) Reimche of Troutdale; Terri (Michael) Enevoldsen of Milwaukie; and Wendy (Dan) Haney of Portland; sisters: Joyce (Eugene) Sobeck of Alpena, MI and Pat (Herb) Gamage of Lachine, MI; 26 grandchildren and 31 great­grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his brother, Ken and grandson Bradley.

A memorial service will be on April 22nd at 11 followed by a meal and fellowship at Gates Community Church, 40070 Gates School Rd, Gates, OR 97346, where he was a member. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Gates. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton, OR.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Gates Community Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
