Richard Blakeney “Dick” Royse
April 14, 1925 – June 16, 2017

Stayton – Dick, 92, was born in Los Angeles, CA to Clifford and Glendora Royse. Dick was active in the scouting program as a boy, following as a parent, as a Cub Scout leader and Scout master and continuing into an administrative capacity in California and Cub Scout leader in Oregon. He was active in sports from marble champion, to track, gymnastics and football.

Dick served in the US Navy during WWII, and survived having his ship sunk under him from a Kamikaze attack near Okinawa. He returned home and discovered his neighbor, Janice, to be grown up. They married on December 19, 1947 in Eagle Rock, CA. They lived in several towns in Southern California, before moving to Oregon in 1967, settling in Sublimity and then living in Stayton.

Dick was a carpenter by trade, in the commercial field, from concrete base to rooftops. He took pride in keeping a meticulous yard and garden, loved playing poker, golf, travel with an RV group, his ‘honey-do’ ladies and family gatherings. He was a survivor through 9 cancer surgeries from 1984, until his last days.

Dick will be missed by his wife of 69 years: Janice of Stayton; son: Steven (Shelley) Royse of Newport Beach, CA; daughters: Christine (Gary) Buehler of Hood River and Cindy (Danny) Heuberger of Sublimity; grandchildren: Sierra (Todd) Buehler of Salem, Logan (Melissa) Buehler with Adelyn and Emarie of Hood River, Kristle Buehler of Hood River, Joshua (Michelle) Heuberger with Paisley and Beckett of Stayton, Jessica (Richard) Borders with Jonah of Silverton, Jared (Rachel) Heuberger with Garrett and Hudson of Sublimity and Justin Heuberger of Scottsdale, AZ. He was preceded in death by his son, Glen and sister, Marie. A special heartfelt gratitude to Willamette Valley Hospice.

Memorial service will be Monday, June 26, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Anthony Hall in Sublimity. Contributions may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice in his name. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
