Sublimity – Joe,
87, died Thursday, December 27 at home. He was born in Stayton
and has lived around the area all of his life. Joe worked for
Stayton Canning Co, now Norpac, for 34 years as a truck driver.
He married Margaret Cowdrey on September 6, 1952 in Stayton,
she preceded him in death on January 22, 2005. Joe later
married Virginia (Welter) Basl on February 25, 2006 in
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church in Stayton, St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity
and Teamsters Local Union #324. Joe enjoyed bowling and
traveling especially to Reno and casinos to gamble. He owned a
fire wood business with his brother, Ed, Woodland Firewood.
Joe loved being with his family for BBQ's and reunions.
He enjoyed working outside, splitting wood, gardening, and
taking his grandchildren on tractor rides.

his wife: Virginia Peters of Sublimity; children: Joe (Pat)
Peters Jr. of Stayton, Judy (Gary) Herndon of Albany and Karen
(Brian) Kroeker of West Salem; step-children: Mike (Susie)
Basl of Stayton, Bob Basl of Aumsville, Cindy Tuss of West
Salem, Terry (Lyndia) Basl of Stayton and Tim Basl of Stayton;
brother: Ted Peters of Stayton; sisters: Frances Bridges of
Junction City and Helen Ruettgers of Stayton; seven
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded
in death by brothers, Ed and George and great-grandson,
Recitation of Rosary will be at 10:30 followed by
Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 2,
2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will
be in St. Mary Cemetery, Stayton. Contributions may be made to
