James A. “Jim” Pond

December 8, 1932 - June 21, 2018

Aumsville- James A. “Jim” passed in peace Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the age of 85. His passing occurred in the company of loved ones and at his home of 47 years in Aumsville.

Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne; his sons, Jedd and John; his brother Robert “Bob”; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Jason; daughter, Jill; and sister Johneva “Jackie”.

Jim was born on December 8, 1932 in Durango, CO, the eldest child of John and Eva Pond. He graduated from Medford High School in 1950 and subsequently served four years in the Air Force, Strategic Air Command, stationed primarily in England during the Korean Conflict. Returning home, he began his career as an Electrical Lineman, a field in which he excelled as both practitioner and instructor for the next 35 years.

Jim’s interests included history, his faith, hobby-farming, and sharpening knives, scissors and tools. Blessed with seemingly boundless physical and mental energy, Jim was never one to sit idle or procrastinate. He was always “doing” and was a voracious reader and studier of legal, religious and historical texts. He had strong opinions and a spirited desire to share them; the result of a lifetime of passionate and self-guided education and research.

Easily recognizable in his jeans, work boots, suspenders and hat, Jim was not one for pomp or pretense. Befitting his nature, an informal and somewhat impromptu Gathering of family and friends was held at his home on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
