area resident Loretta Strohmeyer died December 19, 2018 at the
age of 88. She
fought with grace and courage to stay with us as long as
possible but a series of health setbacks became too much to
overcome. As was
her wish, Loretta passed peacefully in the home she had shared
with her family since 1961. Ralph, her husband and high school
sweetheart over the last 68 years, was by her side.
was born in Oak Creek, Colorado and felt a special bond with
her old west and native American heritage.
She loved the outdoors and the warmth of the sun.
She enjoyed a swim in the river after a long dayís
work, camping Oregonís high lakes with her family, hunting
agates at the beach and sitting on the patio at home
surrounded by a vegetable garden, roses and hummingbirds.
talented artist, Loretta always carried a sketch pad and
colored pencils with her.
She was accomplished in watercolors, oils, pastels,
woodburning and calligraphy.
Sharing a piece of her artwork or a handmade card
brought her joy. And
it was her creative spirit and curiosity that will be
remembered by many.
was a kind and generous soul.
She will be missed greatly by her husband Ralph, sons
Wayne (wife Tracey), David, Russ (wife Margie), five
grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, brothers Ollie and
Frank Staley, sister Claudine, and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her father (Claude),
mother (Hazel), brother (Bob), sisters (Helen, Shirley), and
was a devoted member of Staytonís First United Methodist
Church. In lieu
of flowers, she would be honored by contributions in her name
to the church Stained Glass Window Fund.
service will be Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the
Stayton First United Methodist Church. Serving the family, North
Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
