Gayla (Zornes) Tulensru
November 25, 1954 – November 21, 2018

Monmouth – Gayla, 63, died November 21 in Independence. She was born in Ft. Lewis, WA. Her early years were spent in Iowa until her father, Reverend Richard Lee Zornes, accepted a Pastorship in Oregon, she lived most of her life in the Willamette Valley. Gayla graduated from Stayton High School in 1972 and eventually obtained her Masters Degree in Education from Western Oregon College. She taught throughout Oregon and worked as the Educational Coordinator for the Confederated Tribes of Grande Ronde for many years.

Gayla was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Creekside, in Salem. She felt that being a “Nana” was the greatest joy, she also enjoyed being with her family, including her church family; reading, Facebook, and sharing Snapple facts found on Snapple caps.

Gayla is survived by her children: Ansily Tulensru of Monmouth, Ryan Tulensru of Salem and Johnathan Tulensru of Monmouth; sister: Joy Anni of Caldwell, ID; family best friend: Maggie Sardis of Keizer; and grandchildren: Karliee Tulensru and Levi Tulensru. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose, father, Richard, and brother Danny Zornes.

A memorial service will be Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Creekside, Church of God of Prophecy, 1301Neahkahnie St. SE, Salem, OR, 97306. Private interment was in Lone Oak Cemetery, Stayton. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
