Gates – Polly was
born in the Rolling Hills in West Virginia to Jonnie and
Commie Lewis. She moved to California, married Robert Wickam
and she gave birth to Denise and Tracy. Polly worked for
several years for Hunts Corporation. Leaving as a supervisor
and then she started working in adult care facilities.
divorced Robert in 1960 and later met and married Jess Clinton
Wilson in 1961, he was from Aumsville. From 1961 to 1967 they
live in Las Vegas, NV, then they moved to Grand Island near
Dayton and started a drywall taping business. In 1972, Polly,
Jess and Denise moved to Anchorage, AK and all worked on the
Trans Alaskan Pipeline until it was completed.
Jess in 1984 and she and Denise moved to Aumsville, and the
next year, she opened Rocking Chair Ranch Adult Care Home. She
enjoyed taking care of the elderly and giving them care. In
1998, Polly decided to retire and moved to the foothill of the
Cascades in Gates, where she enjoyed the quiet and vast amount
of wild life. In 2001 she was joined by Denise and her
husband, Dennis. In 2004, they opened Green Mountain Ranch
Adult Care Home, and Polly provided back up care and passed on
humorous stories to the residents. She passed on her knowledge
and skills to many in her life’s journey. Polly enjoyed
doing ceramics and had her own kiln to cure them.
survived by her daughter: Denise (Dennis) Schlies; brother:
Gilford Lewis; step-children: Pete Wilson, Maxine Wilson, Lisa
(Vown) Dorman and Robin (Roger) Lorenze; and several
grandchildren through her extended family. Polly was preceded
in death by her son, Tracy, stepson, Bud, brother, Alford and
ex-husband, Jess Wilson.
The family would like to extend a
grateful thanks to the Gates Volunteer Fire Department. No
services will be held at her request. In lieu of flowers,
