Sublimity – John,
86, died February 24 in Salem. He was born in Elmhurst, IL and
moved to Salem in 1948, graduating from Salem Academy. John
attended college at Prairie Bible Institute, Seattle Pacific
and George Fox College, and after receiving his bachelor’s
degree he received his master’s from OCE now WOSC. He
married Dorothea Wilkins on September 18, 1952 in Newberg.
John worked at Nehalem as a teacher and later as a principal
at Cloverdale and Sherwood Grade School and Hopkins Elementary
School, retiring in 1988. He was very devoted to his wife and
family, and they were very important to him. John enjoyed
woodworking and cabinet building.
John is survived by his
wife; Dorothea of Sublimity; children: Lineta (Patrick) Bethke
of Post Falls, ID, Steve (Karen) Wood of Walla Walla, WA,
Marsha (Kevin) Bryan of Lapine and Dan (Jodine) Wood of
Turner; brother: George Wood of Puyallup, WA; 16 grandchildren
and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
sister Mary-Elen Sommer.
A memorial service will be Saturday,
March 17, 2018 at 11 am at Foothills Church in Stayton, where
he was a member. Private interment in Newberg Friends
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Foothills Youth
Ministry. Serving the family, North
