James "Jim" O. Hanson
January 11, 1970-December 9, 2019

Jim passed away at home in Amherst, New York after battling a severe infection. Born to Evelyn and James A. Hanson, he lived his early years in Salem, Oregon fielding baseballs in the Parrish League. In 1982, the family moved to Mill City where Jim attended Santiam Canyon Schools playing summer league and high school baseball. He could be seen most often at shortstop and occasionally pitching or in the outfield. One could say baseball was his first love.

After graduating from Santiam, Jim attended Western Business College and Chemeketa studying accounting. It was at this time he met Sara Baker whom he married January 16, 1992 in Kodiak, Alaska. Chief Petty Officer Hanson served the United States Coast Guard from February 8, 1993 to January 3, 2017.

Jim loved the outdoors, helping others, his family, watching sports (go Red Sox, Broncos), and spending time with friends. He dedicated much of his time as a volunteer firefighter (Mill City, Gates, Salem, and Newport, Oregon; Kodiak, Alaska and Norwich, Connecticut) as well as EMT (Kodiak, Norwich and Newport). He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn.

Jim is survived by his father James, brother Tony, sister Ellen, wife Sara, and children Stephanie, Sean (Cassie), Jacob, Donna, and Travis.
