On the Lord’s day, July 14, 2019, Ione Evelyn
Hershberger went home to heaven. Recently she had lived in
Sublimity’s Marian Estates for many years. She and
husband, Perry, built a home near Aumsville before that,
retiring from California in the early 1980s.
Ione was born in Oakland, CA on August 26, 1921. She
was raised by Burleigh and Clara Sprague. She attended
Claremont Grade School and University High in Oakland,
graduating in 1941. For ten years Ione worked jobs
including: sales at Wards, delivery person, and secretarial
positions for a commercial printing company, hardware store
and CA DMV.
On June 28, 1951, she and Perry Hershberger were
married. They had been married almost 62 years in 2013 at
the time of Perry’s death. A son, Gary, also
preceded them in death in 2002. She is survived by brother
in laws Glen Hershberger and Gene Hershberger, cousins,
nieces, nephews and many friends.
Ione had many interests including: fishing, bowling,
knitting, crocheting and square dancing. In her later
years she collected dolls and teddy bears and friends…of
all ages. Much of her time was spent sending cards of
encouragement to others, and listening to sermons online.
She was a member of Willamette Valley Baptist Church
in Aumsville, where she will be greatly missed. Her laugh
will fondly be remembered.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 19,
2019 at Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton. Contributions
may be made to Willamette Valley Baptist Church or Union
Gospel Mission. North Santiam Funeral Service in
Stayton is serving the family.
