- Bill, 76, passed peacefully, surrounded by his wife and
daughters on the morning of January 10th in
Stayton. He was
born in Missoula, MT to parents Lawrence and Mary Ellen Zach,
the first of 7 children. He graduated from Mt. Angel Prep,
Oregon State University and USCG Officers Candidate School in
Yorktown, VA, then served for 3 years in San Pedro, CA. During
this time Bill met and married Peggy White a New England
native. They were married in Cranston, RI on February 5th,
After discharge from the Coast Guard, he moved his
family back to Oregon and took a job with Crown Zellerbach in
Vernonia as a forest engineer. In 1970, Bill then began his
teaching career in the Forestry Department of Chemeketa
Community College. In 1984 he made the decision to purchase a
RV Park & Marina on the Siuslaw river in Mapleton. There
are enough stories from this venture to write a book, which he
promised to do someday. Retirement in 2006 brought he and his
wife to Stayton.
Bill is survived by his wife Peggy of
Stayton; daughters: Anne (John) Ferguson of Salem, Jennifer
(Andrew) Meier of Eugene, Jeanne Zach of Tualatin and
Elizabeth (Jeron) Parkins of Alamosa, CO; sisters: Barbara
Rodriguez of Gervais, Cathy Vavra of Georgia, Patty Gassner of
Scio and Peggy Willmschen also of Georgia; brother: Michael
Zach of Vale; and he was blessed with 10 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his sister Mary Doyle.
of Rosary will be Friday, January, 18, 2019 at 10:15 am and
Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM both held at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton. Reception to
follow immediately. Interment will be at a later date.
