William “Bill” Zach
August 19, 1942-January 10, 2019

Stayton - Bill, 76, passed peacefully, surrounded by his wife and daughters on the morning of January 10th in Stayton.  He was born in Missoula, MT to parents Lawrence and Mary Ellen Zach, the first of 7 children. He graduated from Mt. Angel Prep, Oregon State University and USCG Officers Candidate School in Yorktown, VA, then served for 3 years in San Pedro, CA. During this time Bill met and married Peggy White a New England native. They were married in Cranston, RI on February 5th, 1966.

After discharge from the Coast Guard, he moved his family back to Oregon and took a job with Crown Zellerbach in Vernonia as a forest engineer. In 1970, Bill then began his teaching career in the Forestry Department of Chemeketa Community College. In 1984 he made the decision to purchase a RV Park & Marina on the Siuslaw river in Mapleton. There are enough stories from this venture to write a book, which he promised to do someday. Retirement in 2006 brought he and his wife to Stayton.

Preceding him in death was his sister Mary Doyle.
