Richard Frank Basl
June 7, 1931 December 8, 2020

Richard, 89, was born to Frank and Bertha Basl, in Stayton, Oregon on June 7, 1931.  He attended grade school in a one-room school house on Coon Hollow and graduated from Stayton Union High School.  Richard served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War.  Richard married Louann Schaecher on April 23, 1955, in Mt. Angel.  They spent their lives, along with their four children in Stayton, Oregon, raising strawberries and grass seed on Fern Ridge Road.  Richard worked for Stayton Canning, later named Norpac, as a refrigeration engineer for over 30 years.  However, Richard was always happiest when he got his tractor and caterpillar running in the spring.

He was a lifelong resident of Stayton, a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus-St. Anthony, and the Nocturnal Adoration group.  For almost 34 years, Richard, along with his family, made crafts and attended many bazaars and festivals selling their crafts. Richard passed away at his residence surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Louann, sons-in-law Bill Keady and Alex Winkles.  Richard is survived by his son Randy (Lynn); and his daughters, Denise (Dave) Norby, Danette Keady, and Karen Winkles.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law Jim (Judy) Schaecher; and many nieces and nephews.
