89, was born to Frank and Bertha Basl, in Stayton, Oregon on
June 7, 1931.
He attended grade school in a one-room school house
on Coon Hollow and graduated from Stayton Union High School.
Richard served in the United States Marine Corp
during the Korean War.
Richard married Louann Schaecher on April 23, 1955,
in Mt. Angel.
They spent their lives, along with their four
children in Stayton, Oregon, raising strawberries and grass
seed on Fern Ridge Road.
Richard worked for Stayton Canning, later named
Norpac, as a refrigeration engineer for over 30 years.
However, Richard was always happiest when he got his
tractor and caterpillar running in the spring.
He was a lifelong resident of Stayton, a faithful
member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of
Columbus-St. Anthony, and the Nocturnal Adoration group.
For almost 34 years, Richard, along with his family,
made crafts and attended many bazaars and festivals selling
their crafts. Richard passed away at his residence
surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Louann,
sons-in-law Bill Keady and Alex Winkles.
Richard is survived by his son Randy (Lynn); and his
daughters, Denise (Dave) Norby, Danette Keady, and Karen
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law Jim (Judy)
Schaecher; and many nieces and nephews.
Recitation of Rosary
will be Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Immaculate
Conception Church in Stayton at 10:00 am.
Services will follow at 10:30 am.
Due to COVID 19, attendance will be limited; however,
all are welcome to watch the livestream of the service at
the Immaculate Conception Church website at immacstayton.org.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Stayton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to
Regis St. Mary Catholic Schools.
