Laurence “Steve” Hampton

September 27th, 1958 - October 13th, 2020

Laurence “Steve” Hampton passed away peacefully on October 13th, 2020, in Lyons, Oregon at the age of 62 after an 11-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Through his time with cancer, Steve always maintained a positive outlook on life with his diagnosis and never gave up.

Steve was born on September 27th, 1958 in Salem, Oregon to Herbert and Josephine Hampton. He graduated from Santiam High School in 1976. He married Jackie Bice in 1983. Steve worked as a heavy equipment operator working on power lines, travelling 5 Western states. The couple welcomed four children into their home and Steve set about instilling in them his hard work ethic. His children remember him as a loving and hard-working father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Steve made it a point to always put family first, whether it be attending various sporting events his children were involved in or teaching them new skills at home.

Steve was skilled in many areas, but loved to operate heavy equipment and do wood-working. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and building things with them.

Steve is survived by his dad, Herbert Hampton, of Aumsville, wife Jackie Hampton of Aumsville, children Christy Moore (William), Rhonda Bice-Sinks (Justin), Labecca Hampton (Paul Reininghaus) and Jacob Hampton (Samuel Perez); siblings Zach Hampton, Tim Hampton and Oren Hampton as well as 9 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Hampton.

A celebration of life for Steve will be set for a future date. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Steve's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the International Myeloma Foundation at or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at The family would like to thank all the various extended family members that supported Steve and the family during his treatment and the days leading up to his passing as well as all the nursing staff at Serenity Hospice.
