On
December 8, 2020, Harold Michael Hills, loving husband and
father of four children, passed away at the age of 89. The
son of Edwin and Frances Hills, Harold was born on December
24, 1930, in Salem, Oregon. After graduating from Sacred
Heart Academy, he enlisted in the United States Army and
served during the Korean War. Upon receiving an honorable
discharge, he returned home to Detroit, Oregon. On August
18, 1956 he married his lifelong love, Yvonne Broussard.
Together they put down roots and raised four children,
Kevin, Anita, Gerry, and Tony. Subsequently, he started
Harold Hills & Sons Logging, Inc. which he operated for
over 50 years.
Harold was passionate about helping others
and leaves a legacy of serving his family, friends, and the
Detroit community where he was both mayor and city
councilman for 17 years. A prominent fixture around Detroit
Lake, he could be found boating with his family and friends
or drinking coffee at the Korner Post or Cedars. His hobbies
included metal fabricating and general tinkering at his shop
in Idanha. As a founding member of the North Santiam
Snowmobile Club, he was an avid snowmobiler and had a
reputation for having a lead foot. Harold was known for his
quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and
compassionate spirit. He faithfully loved his Lord Jesus
Christ.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin
and Frances, and brothers Carl and Raymond Hills. He is
survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne Hills; his children
Kevin (Vickie) Hills of Detroit, Anita (Greg) Adams of
Gates, Gerry (Maryann) Hills of Detroit, and Tony Hills
(Traci) of Idanha; his siblings Terry Hills of Vancouver,
Washington, Janette Hills of Ontario, Canada, and
sister-in-law Muriel Hills of Salem; eleven grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren. All of whom will all be
honoring his life and missing his presence until they meet
again in Heaven.
Services will be held at St. Boniface
Catholic Church in Sublimity, Oregon at a later date.
