Stayton
- Doris Bolin Laufer-Rains, age 82, passed away peacefully
with family at her side on December 10, 2020 after a short
fierce battle with cancer. She was born March 4, 1938 in
Tumalo, Oregon. Her father Stanley Bolin was a cattle
rancher near Fossil on the John Day River and she loved
riding horses and feeding the bottle-baby calves on the
ranch. Her family moved to Eugene where she married Sgt
Tracy Laufer in 1954. They embarked on many travels through
Tracy’s service in the Air Force including assignments to
Puerto Rico, Germany, Georgia, Mississippi, Maine,
California and many other locales.
Never one to be
idle, Doris worked at many different jobs and interests.
After raising her 4 rambunctious kids, she worked as a CNA
at Santiam Hospital, co-owned & ran a commercial chicken
operation, hosted open houses in the local real estate
market and tended to a varied and ever-changing menagerie of
critters including cows, horses, goats, pigs, chinchillas
and even a couple of dairy cows who, to her eternal
aggravation, liked to kick over their milk buckets right
when they were full. She hatched turkeys, ducks, chickens
and geese from eggs. She loved them all - except for maybe
the ganders who lay in wait to chase her the minute they saw
her come around the corner of the barn. And she wasn’t a
very fast runner... She loved traveling, camping, gardening
and creating artwork whether it was through painting,
sewing, stained glass, mosaics or plants - her hands were
rarely still. And cleaning. That woman loved to clean
- many times she stood at the door, Rubbermaid gloves firmly
in place, hands on her hips while she ordered her 4 children
(& their mischievous cohorts), “Out, get OUT! Just be
home by dinner!”
She is survived by her 4 tough children,
Steven (Susan) Laufer, Dani (Gary) Laufer-Barr, Gary Laufer,
and Brenda (Dave) Bonebrake, as well as her 10 grandchildren
+ 3 great grandchildren. Beloved sister of Neal (Elsie)
Bolin, Gary (Arlene) Bolin & Sharon Huggans.
Dearly
loved and sorely missed. Memorial contributions may be made
to Willamette Valley Hospice of Salem. Serving the family,
North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
