Karlene L. Jensen
October 4, 1952 - March 17, 2021

Redmond - Karlene was born in Salem, Oregon in 1952 to Karl and Rosella Kreitzer. She lived all of her youth in Stayton joining her sister Janice and brother Dennis. She was active in school as a cheerleader and spent many days on the ski slopes. After high school she enrolled at Merritt Davis Business School in Portland studying secretarial skills. After graduating she got a job with a Portland business in their office. Shortly after, she was hired by Multnomah County Courts as a secretary/bailiff for one of the first women circuit court judges in Oregon. In 1981 she moved back to Stayton and took over her parent's men's clothing store along with her husband Todd. In 1983 they took over Baldwins Dry Goods in downtown Stayton and ran their store until their retirement in 2013. Karlene was named “Woman of the Year” by the Stayton Chamber of Commerce in 1994. The family store was named “Business of the Year” in both 1984 and 1991. They then moved to Redmond, Oregon and enjoyed traveling and grandkids until her 5-year battle against cancer took her life.

Karlene met her husband Todd while studying in Portland in 1971 and after a short courtship got engaged. They married in Stayton in 1972. They were fortunate to have four wonderful children-Stephen (Brandy) of Stayton, Kevin (Emy) of Snoqualmie, WA, and twins Kari (Clayton Mattson) of Ashland, and Krista (Casey Byrd) of New Plymouth, ID. They have eight loving grandkids-Gage, Libby, Karly, Colt, Camden, Halsey, Ryder and Kallan. It was her greatest joy to travel and spend as much time as possible with all of them. Her hobbies included her love for sewing, quilting, Red Hat Society and many youth programs.

Karlene is survived by her sister, Janice Magee Basl and brother Dennis (Joann) Kreitzer. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard. Karlene was cremated and no service will be held per her request.

Karlene’s Celebration of Life is planned for June 19 at General Duffy's Tap House in Redmond from noon to 3pm and is open to her family and friends. Her wish was to have her favorite Beatles Tribute band play and so enjoy great music and dancing. A donation to any cancer cause would be welcome.
