Keizer Heritage Community Center |
Where is it located?
It is located at 980 Chemawa Road NE, Keizer, OR. To get to the Center from I-5, take the Keizer exit (from either direction on I-5) and turn West towards downtown Keizer. Just over the railroad tracks, immediately get into the center lane and turn left onto Chemawa. Follow Chemawa through the four-way stop sign to the center. It is a white, two-story structure on the South side of Chemawa Road N.E. If you are coming into Keizer along River Road, the Center is approximately 4 blocks east of the intersection of River Road and Chemawa (where Shari’s, Walgreen's and Roth’s Shopping Center are on the corners).
When is the Center open?
The tenants in the building each have their own hours as shown on the links. The Center itself is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Center is closed on Sundays, although an event may be scheduled on Sundays.

Keizer Heritage Foundation, Inc. (KHF) |
"The Old School" is restored. Why does KHF still exist?
KHF is the owner of the Keizer Heritage Community Center. It leases the land from the City of Keizer. KHF is responsible to ensure the Center remains in excellent condition so that it does not become a burden on the City of Keizer. In addition, KHF owns and operates Keizer Heritage Museum. Maintaining and displaying a history of Keizer is an important asset to the Keizer Community.
How does KHF get its funds?
KHF is a 501(c)(3), Oregon non-profit corporation. It receives dues and donations from members and other interested parties. Also, funds come from renting the large rental room for weddings, receptions, birthdays, anniversaries, meetings and various community events. Funds collected are used to pay KHF’s share of current and future operating costs for the building as well as maintaining and growing the Keizer Heritage Museum. "The Old School" |
Was this building really a schoolhouse?
Click here to go to an original photograph of the School.
The upper portion of this building is the original Keizer School built in 1916 at the intersection of River Road and Chemawa Road. The original foundation could not be moved so a new foundation was built and the original building placed on top of it. Visit Our History page for more information.
Why was the money spent to restore it?
History is an important part of any community. "The Old School" is the oldest public historic building in Keizer, built in 1916. It was a focal point for town meetings, plays, sports and other events. Founders of the "Preserve Our School Committee" did not want to see this historic landmark torn down.
If this is a Community Center, why is there a charge for using the large rental room?
KHF is responsible for maintaining the Community Center in perpetuity. In order to accomplish this, funds are needed for daily operation of the building as well as for future improvements. Dues and donations are important, but they are not enough to operate the building. Tenants in the building are all non-profit organizations and they pay their share of the Center’s maintenance costs. In addition, the Museum uses funds raised by the large room rental to maintain and grow displays of Keizer history. For more information on room rental, please visit our Room Rental Page.
The Center has been and will continue to be used by community or civic organizations. Each request is handled on a case-by-case basis.
Why can’t events be held after 9:45 p.m.?
The Center is located on City property and they have asked us to be aware that we are located in a residential area.
What kind of event can be held at the Community Center?
Please look at the Room Rental section of this website for more information.
