Keizer Heritage Foundation, Inc. is an Oregon non-profit corporation organized in October 1988. Donations to KHF are tax deductible under IRC Section 501(c)(3).
When the school property was sold to a shopping center developer, KHF was formed to save "The Old School" from demolition. Finally, after 11 years of hard work and community support, renovation was completed in November 1999.
Once the building was restored and operational, one of KHF's goals was to give back to the community. In 2004, KHF approved a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a current McNary High School graduate who has resided in Keizer for at least five years. The students have to attend a four-year or two-year college or vocational school within one year of award selection. The selection is based on Financial Need, Academic Performance, School and Community Activities, Work Experience and Completion of the Application Form.
In 2007, KHF added an additional $1,000 to the annual scholarship amount. This additional amount can be awarded as one $1,000 or two $500 scholarships. In 2009, the KHF Board of Directors renamed the original $1,000 scholarship as the Pearl Langeland Memorial Scholarship. Pearl was a longtime educator, activist in Keizer and KHF Board member who passed away in 2008 at the age of 101.
The scholarship applications are available at McNary High School in the Career Counseling office or on the McNary High School website. The applications are due by 5:00 PM on the first Friday of April each year. They can be delivered or mailed to Keizer Heritage Foundation. The applications detail all of the requirements and the information needed.
