Santiam Canyon Stampede
2009 Miss Santiam Canyon Stampede

Kami Smith - 2009 Miss Santiam Canyon StampedeHi rodeo fans!

My name is Kami Smith and I am the 2009 Santiam Canyon Stampede Queen. I was born and raised in the beautiful Willamette valley and I live in Damascus with my parents Carl and Brenda and my brother Kyle. I am a senior at Portland State University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education with an emphasis in school health and plan to get a Masters in Education.

When your favorite high school memory is a combination of your passions - singing the National Anthem and carrying the American Flag, while mounted on horseback - you know that memory belongs to a patriotic horsewoman!

My horse Ginger and I have been partners for 9 years. Throughout high school I was a state competitor in 4-H and Oregon High School Equestrian Team. We have competed in all gaming events, steer daubing, team penning and drill. After high school Ginger and I continued to compete in a gaming organization called Western Horsemen of Oregon. This past year we completed our journey by placing 10th in pole bending between Oregon and Washington. I have retired Ginger from competition but you will still find us on the trails or racing my dad and his thoroughbred on the beach. Every cowboy knows you don’t challenge a horse whose bloodline is out of “King’s Sizzler and Major Bonanza”.

I love people and have a passion for rodeo! The Santiam Canyon board has welcomed me to be a part of their family and I am honored to be the Santiam Canyon Stampede Queen. I would personally like to invite everyone to our rodeo; I promise you will have a great time! I will be riding a 12 year old sorrel quarter horse named “Romeo” in the parades and I will be flying through the arena on “Ginger”, my amazing 21 year old mare.

I hope to see you at the Santiam Canyon Stampede July 31 - August 1.
