Drawings

I think of my drawings as finished works of art. They are not sketches, momentary impressions or quickly stated ideas. For the most part, they take an extended period of time to develop. A drawing is rarely finished in less than two weeks, and its development and variations may extend over many months or several years. Since the technique is so time-consuming, I usually have more ideas than there is time to develop them, so a lot is left unsaid. My working process produces an image which is unique. Each drawing is different, although there is a continuity of style and meaning. However, what emerges is not preordained or even anticipated and is a complete surprise to me, a factor that piques my imagination.
