Chapter
LXIV

It had been a hard to decide what to leave and what to take, as we prepared to leave the cave near the city. Most of what was in the cavern was still there, waiting the next party to leave the city. In the end we had simply taken what weapons and food we could carry on horseback, and left the rest. My harem and I had traveled in a generally westward direction for about seven days. By riding hard all day, and sleeping hard at night, time and miles were passing quickly.

We'd stopped for the night at the end of the seventh day, when Lana and Tina came to me, asking the pace slow down. We were far out of the patrol range of the City, and could expect to start meeting small bands of men any day now. I thought about their request, and could find no reason not to rest here for a few days.

The little meadow we had stopped in was triangle shaped, bounded on one side by the pine forest of the area, while the other two sides were bounded by two small rivers , which joined at the western point of the triangular meadow. It was as pretty place as anyone could hope for to stay for a while, if not defensible. To the south we could see the steep crags of the barrier mountains. To the west was open sky over endless wilderness. Far to the north, were the plains of disaster, and to the east was the city of women we had just come from.

"Besides," said Tina, "You've been neglecting us." She was pouting while she toyed with a breast and pulled at her front leash. "I kind of miss the attention we used to get when were back in the tower." Her eyes were full of mischief as she took my hand and pulled me towards the darkness of the forest. "I saw something as we rode into this meadow I want to show you. It's a perfect place to have some fun."

"Really, where?" I was warming to the idea of sexual diversion.

Tina led me to a small depression in the ground with a large tree standing nearby. One of the tree limbs reached out over the depression, which Tina pointed out was heavy enough to hold all six concubines for my pleasure.

"Tina! There's enough room for all of us! I'm impressed, the last time you showed me a play place, it was barely big enough for the two of us, let alone anyone else!"

"Yes," she replied, "and I remember your reaction too! You told me I was being selfish for finding a place for me, but not them."

"That's true, I did say that."

Just then, we were interrupted by the other five concubines, who had followed us into the secluded little depression, and our conversation was cut short.

Lana said, "I assume you've decided this is going to be our bedroom."

I looked at the group of women, concluding I would be foolish to deny what was on my demented mind.

"Yes, now if some of you will bring the bedding, and toys, while the others feed, water, and hobble the horses, we can get settled in, and eat a hot dinner before dark falls."

I sat by the entry to the depression, and watched the women go about their tasks. While I watched, I wondered how much further we would be allowed to go, before we were confronted by the small band of men who had been following us for the last three days.

I'd spotted them when we'd stopped for the night three days ago. At first I'd almost said something to the women, but at the last minute decided not to. The longer those men waited before making contact, the better the chances it would be peaceful contact. I was still thinking of the men out there following us, when the last of my six companions made her way into the depression, and they called me to them.
