Busted!
An Evening Arrest

By: JD Hoeye

Late one summer evening last year, we just settling into the yawns of good night when my attention was drawn to the scanner as this story unfolded:

Police dispatch did their job and sent an officer to investigate telephone reports of a prowler a voyeur in the neighborhood where we lived. The district is small but in the next few minutes dispatch reported they had been receiving numerous calls from the area about the person who was reported in such terms as Prowler Voyeur Peeping Tom an Exhibitionist.

The officer who was first dispatched asked for help due to the dark and fragmented nature of the district and soon there were at least three officers in our neighborhood all looking for the reported Subject.

After a few minutes of silence an officer reported he had located the Subject and the other officers moved in to help apprehend the Subject. In a matter of moments the Code-4 (all secure) was reported. The subject was in custody. Another job well done.

Several more minutes passed after which the radio traffic became extraordinarily thick when dispatch not to mention several other officers repeatedly badgered the arresting officer for the identity of the culprit. There was no reply.

The dispatcher pointedly pressed the arresting officer for the identity of the suspect. Still no answer.

After a few moments the arresting officer reported that all was well and that everyone could go on back to their normal duties.

Another short silence the dispatch demanded the name of the suspect voyeur. The arresting officer slowly replied, "It's our city police Chief. He was taking a walk, stopped to urinate in someone's shrubbery.
